Self-Positioning in the art field
Fri 24 – Sat 25 September
Speaker: Birgit Effinger
Art needs an audience. But, in today’s dynamic and globally networked art field, what is the right environment for my artistic work? How do I manage to establish connections, build contacts and generate publicity without having to compromise my principles? And what am I trying to communicate with my artistic work? In this two-day webinar we will discuss these questions. We will introduce the relevant topics within the artistic analysis and together we will think ahead and look at the future world of art. The focus will also be on connectivity, individual approaches, interfaces and discussing types of contexts, and how to use this as a platform for creating visibility of your artwork. This workshop will support you in developing individual solutions and strategies for creating visibility and establishing an effective presence in the art market.
How to write about your artwork? Writing concise copy that works
Fri 15 October
Speaker: Birgit Effinger
Applications, press releases, websites, portfolios, cover letters, proposals: Writing plays an important role in the overall reception of an artwork. Moreover, the writing process takes up a lot of time, while it encapsulates the writer’s individual artistic standpoint. It’s never too early to start working on improving your writing. What is involved in writing effective copy? What are the different genres of writing? What strategies should be adopted for putting your individual concerns and priorities in writing, in a way that projects confidence and sets yourself apart from the crowds? How can you find your personal writing voice to present your own creative practice appropriately according to the situation? With the participants’ current projects in mind, we will look for answers to these questions and try out different types of writing styles. The workshop will provide you with practical advice and offer guidelines for writing your own texts. Practical exercises will play a key role.
Get together – The benefits of teamwork vs. fighting your own battle
Thu 28 – Fri 29 October
Speaker: Birgit Effinger
Nowadays, everyone is talking about networking and teamwork. But discussions and division of labour alone do not necessarily constitute an effective team. The difference between working cooperatively and working as a “lone wolf” lies in a joint ‘thinking outside the box’ approach. The old phrase ‘the whole is greater than the sum of the parts’ says it exactly right. Teamwork is neither the norm nor a utopia, it is a way of acting for the common interest. What are the different cooperative working models? How can you build and organise effective collaborations? What suitable criteria can be developed to have a group of people make common cause with another? What are the rules for a successful collaboration? What legal forms are available to temporary collaborations? What factors make artistic group processes successful? We will explore these questions in the context of various typologies and art practices and discuss the possible options for your own creative work.
Social Media for artists
Sat 20 November
Speaker: Thomas Neubner
In this workshop, you will learn about the opportunities and risks of using social media as a communication tool. In the practical part of the workshop, participants will build their first social media presence, which will then be loaded with dynamic content. Participants who are already using social media platforms will also benefit from this workshop, by developing strategies on how to use their profile and existing community to boost social media reach and thereby advancing the artistic discourse.
