Dear friends of the BORDERLAND RESIDENCIES,

There are moments when territories appear to reveal a certain porosity. Rather than appearing static, territory seems receptive, quietly shaped by time, presence and perception. It unfolds differently, not as a rigid boundary, but as a delicate space in which relationships, memories and movements leave their mark.
The exhibition TENDER TERRITORIES reflects on moments like these. From 17 to 30 April, it presents the positions of 25 artists from 17 nations who took part in the Borderland Residencies´ joint program along the european border between Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Here, territory is not presented as a clearly defined geopolitical boundary. The works examine how places are shaped by light, bodies, and stories, and how forms of belonging, memory and transformation become embedded within them.

The wave inside architecture appears as a domesticated, miniature ocean—an engineered version of a natural phenomenon. A hybrid environment caught between the natural and the technological, it carves out a 20 m² Ocean where liquid space and unstable ground open a field for listening and gestures.
The performance unfolds as a sonic mise-en-scène and a series of tableaux vivants, phrases forming feedback loops between thirteen performers and the wave. A collective try to cheer up and distract the audience.
