Océane Moussé

Océane Moussé is a French visual artist, born in Toulouse in 1980. She lives and works between Toulouse and Berlin. She studied Fine Arts and Audiovisual Arts at the University Toulouse Jean- Jaurès and, since the early 2000s, has developed a practice centred on drawing, which has gradually expanded into installation, sculpture, sound, video and language.

Her practice is shaped by a regular movement between France and Germany. In 2013, she undertook a residency in Düsseldorf as part of the Toulouse/Düsseldorf artist exchange programme. Her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions in France and Germany, as well as in Spain and Belgium, notably in Berlin, Hamburg, Marseille and Toulouse. In 2019, she was nominated for the Neuköllner Kunstpreis in Berlin. In 2025, she received the Collioure Prize.

Océane Moussé regularly collaborates with composer Henning Specht on installations, sound performances and video works. She is also a member of Inside Draftwomen, a Hamburg-based collective that organises exhibitions and projects exclusively dedicated to contemporary drawing.

Her work is held in several public collections, including in Berlin, Marseille and at Bel Ordinaire. In 2025, she undertook a drawing research residency at Les Ateliers des Arques. In 2026, she is a resident in Düsseldorf as part of Borderland Residencies.

„My practice explores forms in tension, always liable to shift or transform, in dialogue with the structures and dynamics of living systems. Nature is a model of balance for me, its cycles of growth, fragility and mutation informing the development of forms and reminding us of the impermanence of both landscapes and our own existence.

My work is concerned with margins, remnants, fragments and discarded materials, approached as starting points for new configurations. These shifts give rise to unstable forms, caught between constraint and openness, where fragile balances and forms of poetic resistance can emerge.

These processes of fragmentation, folding and recomposition transform space into a field of sensory experience, traversed by vibrations, echoes and variations. Drawing lies at the heart of my practice, extending from paper floating along walls to sculptural forms, and engaging with sound, language and installation as an extension of the body into space.“

I would like to pursue in Düsseldorf a line of research that has gradually emerged from my drawing practice: looking at what remains around the image, what escapes the frame, and what the act of drawing leaves behind. For years, I have kept the margins, offcuts and fragments left over from my drawings. Accumulated over time, they have become a material in their own right, which I now want to move, assemble and experience in space. What was once peripheral thus becomes the starting point for new forms.

I am particularly interested in the context of Borderland and in the movement it proposes between different territories, landscapes and situations. Having myself moved between France and Germany for many years, I am sensitive to this way of discovering a territory through movement and passage from one space to another. I want to pay attention to what lies at their margins, to what remains, changes, or bears traces of the uses and movements that have shaped them. I want to move through these spaces, observe their forms and transformations, and allow these experiences to shift my own way of working.

In Düsseldorf, I want to experiment with this existing material while remaining open to what the territory itself may bring forth. Fragments, drawings, lines or materials encountered along the way may come together in wall-based compositions, installations or modular configurations. In particular, I would like to continue my research into line and partition, and observe how a form can transform when its position, scale or relationship to space changes.

For me, the residency will be a period of research in which movement, encounter and experimentation can allow this material to evolve and open up new possibilities for drawing.
