Silviu Guiman

Silviu Guiman is currently finishing his M.A. at Folkwang University of Arts in Essen in Germany after studying abroad at École nationale supérieure de la photographie in Arles/France and at dieAngewandte University of Arts/Vienna, as well as being a guest student in the Klasse of Heidi Specker at HGB Academy of Arts in Leipzig. Further study programs visited at PARSONS NEW SCHOOL in New York City, Moholy-Nagy University of Art in Budapest and Hongkong Polytechnic University School of Design.

Silviu’s artistic practice includes photography, film & sound, site specific sculpture and painting as well as performance. His work orbits around a possible interaction between what we like to call Consciousness, Body and Landscape. In his exploration of these concepts he experiments with intuitive image-making processes as well as integrating archival material and found footage. By dissolving the boundary between reality and the imaginary he is seeking for ways for a landscape to emerge as an active agent that speaks not only of natural phenomena but also of history. A history of instability and fragility that is not and cannot be completed.

During my Borderland Residency I will to work and produce a photobook around the topic of mining. I will experiment with fictional narrations in dialog format, as well as doing research and work with archival material.
