Luciana Arditto was born in Buenos Aires in 1978. She studied visual arts at the National University of Art of Argentina. Her work has been exhibited at several collective and individual shows in Argentina and other countries. Furthermore, she was an artist in residence in The Hague (Zeebelt Theatre), in Colombia (Residencia en la Tierra), and in Bad Munster am Stein-Ebernburg (Künstlerbahnhof). In 2018, she was invited to participate in the Snow Sculpture Contest in Quebec. Some of her sculptures are located in public places.
Artistic method
In her artistic work, Luciana examines the relationship between sculpture and architecture. She is interested in the tension that appears when sculpture is understood as a kind of habitable space while architecture is presented as a useless or non-functional object. She works with metal, but also uses other construction materials such as concrete or wood.
Project during Borderland Residencie
"The work that I produced during my residency at Höheweg is a kind of imprecise puzzle, fragments of non-functional constructions selected from the everyday life (corners, voids, walls). It is made of concrete but in a smaller scale than we are used to see in objects made of that material. Everything is placed on a base that maintains some references to the "real" world (distances, geographical references).
The intention is to think about the role of the view and how our perception of the space is conditioned by a symbolic dimension."
