A temporary stay in a new region or at a border often raises questions about one's own identity. How do I position myself? Where do I belong? As a result, a feeling of "in-betweenness" frequently emerges. This is a phenomenon that the 2024-25 Borderland Residencies scholarship holders explored during their field trips in the border region between Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium. From moments of collective artistic research, impulses for new works emerged, and their results will be presented in the exhibition BETWEEN BELONGING at Weltkunstzimmer Düsseldorf from April 11th to 26th. The exhibition tells of an indeterminacy that offers the opportunity to reinterpret one's own sense of belonging and the concept of belonging itself. It also raises the thought that, ultimately, we are all part of various complex and constantly evolving systems.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 6:00 PM to midnight. During the two-week duration, the exhibition can be visited every Thursday to Saturday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM (except Easter Sunday).
The exhibition is curated by Nathalie Schulz (independent curator, Düsseldorf), with support from Lene ter Haar (Cultural Officer, Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Düsseldorf).
Additional artworks by the Borderland Residencies scholarship holders will be on display at ART DÜSSELDORF from April 10th to 13th in varying constellations. We look forward to your visit!
