Dear friends of Borderland Residencies,
The ground beneath our feet is more than just the surface on which we stand. The scholarship holders of the Borderland Residencies 2023-24 got to the bottom of its complex meaning during their field trips in the border region between Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. Moments of collective artistic research gave rise to work impulses, the results of which they will present in the exhibition SPEAKING SOIL from 10 April to 2 June 2024. The exhibition tells of the significance of soil for planetary life from various perspectives: as a resource, habitat and national territory as well as from the perspective of ownership, resettlement, migration and climate change. The exhibition is curated by Julika Bosch (Artistic Director of Sammlung Philara) and Hannah Niemeier (Curator).
OPENING
SPEAKING SOIL will open on April 10, from 6 to 9 pm, at Sammlung Philara, Birkenstraße 47a, Düsseldorf, with performances by Cristiana Cott Negoescu, Salomé Ingelbrecht and Tini Aliman.
