The Museum Moyland is a museum for modern and contemporary art, as well as an international research centre focusing on the life and work of Joseph Beuys. The museum is dedicated to the classic museum tasks of collecting, preserving, researching, and documenting, as well as exhibiting and educating.
The museum´s collection is based on the former private collection of the van der Grinten brothers, featuring visual and applied arts from the nineteenth to the twenty-first centuries. The world´s largest complex of works by the artist Joseph Beuys forms the core of the collection.(source)
A group of international performance artists intensively explored Beuys' work in the archive and collection as part of a month-long research residency at the ArToll art lab in March 2025.The participating artists developed site-specific long durational performances that are presented in the museum spaces. These revive the performative nature of the Beuys collection at Museum Schloss Moyland and reactivate the dialogue between art and museum visitors. At the same time, the traditional rules for the presentation of a collecting art institution are suspended in favour of an experimental opening and processuality.(source)
