IDEA OF THE RESIDENCY
– Duration: One full year (January 1 to December 31)
– Location: Living and working in Duisburg, specifically with a studio provided in the Rheinhausen district
– Goal: To support emerging creators and encourage them to establish a long-term connection to or focus on the local art scene in the Ruhr area
Duisburg has been promoting art and culture for decades. As a result, in this city in the Ruhr region, almost 40 municipal studios are permanently available rent-free. The Duisburg Artists’ Association plays an active role in the local art scene. The residency grant is intended to encourage artists to stay in Duisburg in the long term.
REQUIREMENTS AND ELIGIBILITY
Applications are open to those working in the fields of visual arts, photography, illustration, performance or video art. Applicants must have completed their degree or vocational training at least one year ago.
Applications must be submitted digitally by 31 August to the City of Duisburg’s Cultural Services: c.bohndorf@stadt-duisburg.de. An independent expert jury will then decide on the award of the scholarship. Applicants must explain why Duisburg is exactly the right place for their artistic work. The successful candidate will be announced at the end of October.
– Applicants must not be older than 40 years.
– Must have completed formal training or studies at least one year prior to the start of the grant.
– Enrolled students are generally excluded from applying.
– Must present a compelling proposal showing intent to link their artistic practice with Duisburg.
