One programme, an increasing number of art residencies with international guest artists and infinite opportunities: In the autumn of 2022, the art hotspots of the Rhine-Meuse region are gearing up again for the second edition of the Borderland Residencies.
Borderland Residencies – a truly unique network of art residencies in an European border region. The initiative emerged from the considerations on the reformatting of the Ringenberg Scholarship at the Ringenberg Symposium 2019. In in-depth discussions, an analysis of the residency landscape in North Rhine-Westphalia revealed the strengths of the region as well as fields that still left room for improvement. The BORDERLAND alliance has taken up the results and developed a new approach: The programme not only provides financial support to help fund scholarships, short-term artistic interventions and co-productions, but also offers a professional and transnational upgrade to scholarship holders and residencies through networking, deepening creative practice, public awareness raising and opportunities to present works throughout the EuRegion.
Field trips bring the Borderlands closer together through experiencing art forms unique to the EuRegion, both its intact and destroyed landscapes, its history through times of war and peace as well as its art hot spots. In addition, the residency hosts make use of their contacts: In an “EuRegio art speed-dating”, the Borderland residents will have the unique chance to engage in exclusive talks with experts, curators and gallery owners.
Whether longstanding residencies, emerging scholarship offers, pop-up residencies or exhibition venues: In the BORDERLAND RESIDENCIES network, everyone who wants to support artists' careers can only win. Let's work together!
