Borderland Residencies

ONE PROGRAMME, AN INCREASING NUMBER OF ART RESIDENCIES FEATURING INTERNATIONAL GUEST ARTISTS, AND ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES: IN FALL 2026, THE ART VENUES OF THE RHINE-MEUSE REGION WILL JOIN FORCES FOR THE SIXTH EDITION OF THE BORDERLAND RESIDENCIES. ATTENTION: Applications can only be made directly to the residencies!

HISTORY AND IDEA

The initiative emerged from considerations on the redesign of the Ringenberg Fellowship during a symposium in 2019. In-depth discussions and an analysis of the residency landscape in North Rhine-Westphalia revealed the strengths of the region as well as fields that still left room for improvement. The BORDERLAND alliance took up these findings and developed a new approach: the joint BR programme not only provides financial support to fund grants, short-term artistic interventions and co-productions, but also offers a professional and transnational upgrade to scholarship holders and residencies through networking, deepening creative practice, raising public awareness and giving opportunities to present works throughout the EuRegion.

FIELD TRIPS AND NETWORKING

Field trips bring the regions of the border area closer together – with both their intact and their devastated landscapes, their history in times of war and peace, and their artistic hotspots. Furthermore, the hosts of the residencies draw on their contacts: all activities involve not only the residents, but also experts, curators and gallery owners from across the EUregion.
Whether long-standing residencies, new fellowship opportunities, pop-up residencies or exhibition venues: within the BORDERLAND RESIDENCIES network, anyone wishing to support artists’ careers stands to gain. Let’s work together!
