noord/west* Evertsoord

SITE AND LOCATION
noord/west* is a small-scale, unstructured residency/retraite* for artists and writers, located in a former dairy farm in Evertsoord, North Limburg, that has been converted into a home, guest accommodation, and studio. Evertsoord offers a setting which is significantly different from what many artists are used to in their daily environment. There are no nearby facilities and no cultural audience. This absence creates space for new experiences, unexpected encounters, and fresh perspectives.
Although cultural institutions are scarce, they are not absent. noord/west* actively seeks to connect with the existing cultural network in the region, aiming to participate in it and, where possible, strengthen existing relationships.
ABOUT THE RESIDENCY
The residency/retraite* provides space, peace and quiet, artistic support as well as a studio to stay and work. There is no fixed programme. Instead, residents decide for themselves how to structure their time, explore the surroundings, and, if they wish, engage with the local community.
Also the location near the German border opens up possibilities. From Evertsoord, Düsseldorf is closer than Amsterdam. For this reason, residents are preferably artists and writers who are active within the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion or who have a connection to it.
PROGRAMMATIC FOCUS
When selecting residents, pragmatism, a pioneering spirit, energy, and an unorthodox attitude are important. It is not so much a willingness to develop a programme, but rather a curiosity about what a different environment can do to one’s own work and way of thinking.
