What once started as a fascination for the horizon grew into an artistic practice about the space around us. Judith Reijnders graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts at the art academy in Maastricht in 2020.
She was an artist in resident at Extrapool in Nijmegen, performed her work at ARTWARE EVENT #1 2020 HXHoogcruts, and was co-organizer of ALL INN, the first national fine-art graduation show. As a result of organizing the exhibition with 175 artists, the team grew into an art initiative: the Core.
Discipline
Photography, Installation,
Performance
Judith Reijnders’ main curiosity is the space between the buildings and above the streets. In a light and playful way, she uses media like photography, installations, and performances to explore this invisible volume. By inviting the public to participate she stimulates a conscious judgment of their surroundings.
Year of participation
2021
With New Views, I want to seize the opportunity to develop projects in which residents and passers-by are challenged to spend more time in the public space and give it color together. In my work process I start with a personal research to meet the surroundings and understand the current situation.
I will use the findings in developing a plan for more green integration in the city. My vision to bring play back into the space will be a common thread in the process. This may result in an intervention, artwork or intervention. A train of thought at the moment is the creation of a dance/movement/flow in the neighborhood, developed on the basis of the current culture. This as a temporary event but also with permanent traces in the environment. Think of ground markings or adding (natural) obstacles. A roadmap to (re)meet the space and turn the 'ordinary' into a stimulating playground.
