Belonging to the museum complex are three separate project rooms. Two of them are former transformer stations - so called "Trafotürme”. These Trafotürme are used mainly for semi-outdoor installations and sometimes hold complementary pieces to the exhibitions shown at Museum Katharinenhof.
The biggest project room out of the three is the former farm house of the famous van der Grinten family in Nimweger Straße 3. The project room, which was not set up until 2022, is located in the former house of the brothers Hans and Franz Joseph van der Grinten, who built up their extensive art collection there. This special place is not only connected to the history of the van der Grinten family, but also is interwoven with the life and career of Joseph Beuys. In 1957, Beuys stayed at his friends’ house and finally put together his legendary exhibition "Stallausstellungen".
The Kranenburg Project Room does not only represent an art-historical past, but relives an artistic continuation in a house that has already experienced many memorable exhibitions. Apart from an exhibition space, the project room also holds a studio for artistic work. The Kranenburg residency artist will be provided with the studio as a work space and is free to exhibit their work in the three project rooms.
The residency artist will be provided with an appartment close to the studio space.
