Nico Pachali (*1988, Gera) lives and works in Hanover and Viersen. He studied at the University of Fine Arts Braunschweig graduating 2018. Since 2022 he has taught experimental drawing at the Architecture Falculty's department of Art and Design at the Leibniz University Hannover. Recently he exhibited new works in a solo exhibition at Neuer Kunstverein Wuppertal. His work is deeply rooted in the process of drawing and its transformation into space.
Discipline
drawing, writing, installation, sculpture
My drawing process: What always accompanies me when drawing is the question of how I want to deal with a drawing (or a group of drawings) later on. On a wall (or on the floor) emerging distances, groups and spaces between several drawings in different (or same) formats are at least as important as the act of drawing itself.
For me, the process of drawing is not completed until a selection is made and a formation (or: setting, ensemble, group) has emerged on a wall or/and on the floor in relation to the given space. The installative approach to drawing is essential for me – it becomes a kind of second drawing process where I can rearrange, see, group and sort out in a more sensitive, emotional and intuitive way and find new perceptions through composition.
Year of participation
2023
In the upcoming months I want to further explore the mobile, temporary and ephemeral character of my work and develop different installations with drawings (and objects that are based on drawings) on wall and floor (wall-floor settings). Terms such as formation, arrangement, ensemble and setting are relevant to me in this ongoing process and I feel the need to further define the personal meaning and use of horizontal space (space=field) throughout my work.
I am also developing a new series of drawings on a self-produced pvc-material in an attempt to visualize, in an almost diary-like way, my daily studio and thought process through writing and drawing in an analytical and investigative approach.
