Westerhuis' works depict a world after the bomb, climate crisis, Ragnarok or other catastrophes. She calls this fictitious merging of history and future archaeological futurism. It fuses current technological accelerations with historic technology while focussing on mythology and its connection to nature and ecocriticism. Marit questions how we can relate to crises through the lens of ritual structures, alchemy and polytheism, which appear to be at odds with the modern ideology of progress and technoism.

Our constant hunger as fanatical internet shoppers cannot be satisfied. Distribution centers are popping up like mushrooms all over the Netherlands. Over the past fifteen years, 27.5 million euros have been invested in logistics real.
The result is planological fast food; cheap building blocks and greedy property developers. The green horizon of the Netherlands gradually becomes invisible, the view blocked by enormous homogeneous black steel cubes. It provides an interesting image that Westerhuis will use as a new impetus for work.
