Narek Arushanyan (* 2005, Armenia) is an artist originally trained in fashion, working across visual arts, video, and collective publishing. His practice explores themes of sexuality, magic, and political research, often blending personal and collective narratives.
He is one of the contributors to “Revolutionary Health and Health for the Revolution”, collaborating with other artists to produce issues through collective reading, translation, organizing, and distribution.
Most recently, in the summer of 2025, he was part of an artist-run collective exhibition based on the principles of Grigor Simonyan’s artwork "Instructions for Artists" in HayArt Centre.
In the spring of 2025, he took part in the “Future Imperfect” exhibition at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, curated by Vigen Galstyan as part of the “100+10 Armenian Allegories”. In 2024, he participated in the artist-run exhibition “PANICKED” at HayArt Centre, showcasing works such as Pleshka, a poster on gay cruising spaces, They Can’t Take Away Our Magic, a flacon with label, and a poster/sticker with homoerotic illustration in front of the revolutionary red star. His works have also been featured in exhibitions including “To influence and be influenced, to inspire and be inspired, to infect and be infected” (2023), ARTLAB Yerevan’s exhibition in Kapan (2022), and ACCEA’s Annual Festival of Alternative Art (2021), etc.

THEY CAN´T TAKE AWAY OUR MAGIC
Narek Arushanyan’s practice operates at the intersection of collective and personal narrative,
labor, everyday life, and the collective political context. His methodology combines research,
collective practices such as publishing, and visual works to interrogate themes of sexuality, art,
and resistance. As a continuation of Armenian contemporary art tradition and art movements
from 90s Narek is taking a multidisciplinary approach, his mediums often include installations,
objects, and posters on paper or PVC.
