Entrepreneur organisation »Ondernemend Venlo« (Entrepreneurial Venlo) has twenty business parks under its wings. These house over 1300 companies and 40.000 emplyees. In the next few years, these locations will be the centre stage for the improvement of sustainability: measures will be taken in order to combat heat stress and desiccation, but also to make better use of energy (maybe even collectively).
In order to determine which measurements are best for which locations, the HAS (»Hogere Agrarische School«; University of Applies Sciences, specialising in agriculture and horticulture) has conducted a scan on which the next steps will be based.
How can green business parks contribute to the energy and climate transitions? How can this be visualised, and how can we stimulate participation?
Involving companies, employees, family, friends, city and region residents. Meaning has been given to the term ‘Empowerment’ from a theoretical level of Transition Management. The chart below mentions different dimensions that can play a part in this. Eventually, the main goal is to create a change of behaviour in people.

Aiding questions
Does the experiment create conditions that enable people to connect or renew
relationships that contribute to their own wellbeing (for instance, face-to-face
contact or spontaneous interactions).
There are two business parks where an intervention can take place:
– »Businesspark Noorderpoort«. This business park, just north of Venlo, has some 170 companies. It’s a 200-hectare area and lies next to the A67 motorway. Nature reserve and national park the “Zwart Water” lies on the other side of the A67.
– »Businesspark Spikweien«, Lomm. This business park is 52 hectares, and has nature reserve and national park the “Ravenvennen” on its eastern border. The village of Lomm, part of the greater Municipality of Venlo, lies nearby.
