WELTKUNSTZIMMER DÜSSELDORF
artist in residence 2024
Hasmik Tangyan and Tiko Imnadze
The Weltkunstzimmer is the art center of the Hans Peter Zimmer Foundation in Düsseldorf. Our program consists of exhibitions, the concert series Musikzimmer, performances and presentations from dance and theater, workshops, talks, the film festival Urban Space Videowalk, as well as the Weltkunstzimmer Residency.
"We try to understand the world in its complex contexts, irritations and multi-layered nature and to approach it anew again and again - in art, in discourse and in experimentation."
The WELTKUNSTZIMMER residency offers a platform for cross-genre exchange in analog and digital spaces. The residency program consists of networking, artistic presentations, discourses and an exchange with the respective regions.
History
Since 2015, the Frauenkulturbüro NRW e.V. established networks of cultural exchange between Georgia, Armenia and NRW as an artist exchange program, under the decisive leadership of Maria Wildeis and already at that time in cooperation with the Museum Goch and the WELTKUNSTZIMMER. The current residency draws on this long-standing partnership and continues to offer it a platform.

Düsseldorf is a vibrant city with high quality art museums, many art galleries, a well-known art academy and a vivid art scene.
Being the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, a densely populated province of Germany, Düsseldorf is surrounded by cities like Cologne, Essen, Duisburg, Wuppertal, also with high ranking cultural institutions. The WELTKUNSTZIMMER is situated in an industrial area, on the outskirts of Düsseldorf.
For the the stay in Düsseldorf, the artists will be provided with an artist studio and guest room at Weltkunstzimmer Düsseldorf. There will be a networking program implicated with excursions, visits and events. We will support artists individually as needed.
The residency is open to all genders and forms of identity. Furthermore there is no age limit for participation in the programme and there is no explicit production of works or participation of exhibitions involved. Yet we are happy to help any individual efforts for work presentations. In order for the residency programme to be successful for all participating artists, we have the following requirements for applicants: Openness to a transcultural, interdisciplinary exchange with other artists* from the fields of visual arts, performing arts/dance and music/sound. Interest in joint visits to various event formats, institutions and actors from the respective genres (e.g. festivals, concerts, studios, exhibitions, discussions, etc.). Participating artists are asked to work for at least 2/3 of the residency period at the locations of the residency. Plans for travel on weekends, e.g. to Berlin or Hamburg will be supported. Participating artists are asked to realize at least one public input in the Weltkunstzimmer during the second half of their residency period (e.g. a screening, a presentation, a discussion, a workshop, a work talk, an open rehearsal, a performance, etc.). In addition, the residency can also be used for research, conceptual rehearsals or for a concrete elaboration.
